March 13th – Math in Space – Sun Dials
What time is it? It’s Sun Time! Today we figure out how to tell time with the Sun. We’ll make colourful sun dials that you can take home to practice telling time without a watch. We’ll also have demonstrations on how orbits work in our solar system. Math can be fun

March 14th – Pi Day – Math in Space

A celebration of math and Pi, with pie!

Join us for special presentations about our favourite math constant on its special day: 3.14. We’ll have a Pi recitation contest and walk in our Pi Parade led by a Pied Piper to enjoy a complimentary slice of pie!

Math activities and demonstrations from the UBC Math Department and Pacific Institute of Mathematical Sciences

March 15th and 16th – Engineering in Space

Calling all rocket enthusiasts! Explore your inner engineer by building your own rocket or catapult. We’ll figure out how we get objects into orbit!

Plus, ever wonder what’s inside your computer or smart phone? We’ll open one up and have a look with some circuit board demonstrations.

March 17th and 18th - Art in Space

What does a black hole look like? We don’t really know which is why we need artists to help visualize them. Today we paint black holes and nebulas, with our educators on hand to tell you all about them!

March 19th and 20th – Science in Space

Today we science the heck out of the solar system! First, we’ll learn about all the planets in the solar system by making solar system headbands. Then, we’ll figure out which ones are rocky, gassy, and which ones have volcanoes! While we’re at it, we’ll erupt our giant volcano in an explosive demonstration!

March 21 and 22nd – Technology in Space

Computers, telescopes, and robots! Space is the place where we send the latest technological advancements, and today we’ll learn all about them! We’ll help you make a model of the most famous telescope in the universe, Hubble!
