Staff Spotlight - Rachel Wang
The Space Centre wouldn’t be what it is today without our amazing staff. We’d like to take a moment to shine the spotlight on a member of our little space family.
How long have you been working here?
I started on July 24, 2019!
What is your position at the Space Centre?
What’s your favorite thing about space?
Space is one of the most unique and vast environments that we can study. Every time I look up at the night sky, I’m filled with a sense of wonder, thinking about what is and could be out there. I also love the technological challenge of it – trying to observe objects and phenomena that are millions and millions of kilometers away from our home on Earth is no easy task!
What made you want to work here at the Space Centre?
Back when I was in elementary school, my class took a field trip to the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre. I remember seeing GroundStation Canada shows and designing and launching bottle rockets just outside the observatory. The interpreters were so enthusiastic and patient when answering all my questions, I knew that I wanted the opportunity to give back and inspire others like the Space Centre did for me when I was young. Now, a decade later, I’m working as the astronomer at the Space Centre, surrounded by incredible, driven people and it’s a dream come true.
What do you recommend people check out at the Space Centre?
The Planetarium shows are out of this world! It is a great place to learn more about astronomical and astrophysical concepts, with stunning visuals and interpreters who will guide you through our vast universe.
